Where It All Began
PW Dance & Sportswear began with founder Vickie Thomas, who started by creating competition leotards and swimwear for her daughters. As demand for her designs grew, she then launched Sprats in Napier New Zealand in 1991.
In 2006, the purchase of Paul Wright Dancewear and its factory enabled the business to expand further, evolving into PW Dance & Sportswear as it is known today.
Vickie’s passion and determination have shaped every stage of PW’s growth. She is now joined by her daughters, Rhiannon and Megan, with Rhiannon Thomas leading the helm as New Zealand’s General Manager.
The company has changed through the years, with the Sprats brand now retired in favour of PW Dance & Sportswear. This is an evolution of the Paul Wright Dancewear brand gained when Vickie purchased world-renowned principal ballet dancer Paul Wright’s company, retail stores and shoe factory in 2006.
PW Australia
In 2023, the PW story expanded once again with the addition of Jenny Thompson, who stepped in to oversee PW Dance & Sportswear Australia. Jenny brought a wealth of industry experience, a strong operational mindset, and a genuine commitment to the performing arts. Jenny and her husband Rich run the Australian business having purchased the Distribution rights in June 2025 driving significant growth across our online presence, wholesale partnerships, and retail operations.
Their dedication to exceptional customer service and their passion for supporting performers align seamlessly with PW’s core values. Under their leadership, PW Australia continues to strengthen its reach, deepen its community connections, and uphold the brand’s promise of quality, innovation, and unwavering support for performers.
